Our aim is to help members to achieve their writing ambition, whether writing for pleasure or something more ambitious. Themes are agreed by the group. On occasions, we have external published authors who share their writing journey with us.
Members bring any work they have written, including a short story, poem, play, flash fiction etc. (maximum 750 words) and read them to the group. Following this, members receive feedback and suggestions from other group members.

Writing memorable characters
A story, whether fiction or creative non-fiction, would be dull without characters who jump off the page and enter our psyche. Characters, whether protagonist or antagonist, with compelling traits who catch our imagination and transport us into a world of intrigue, excitement, terror, love, hate and compassion. Characters who toil with our emotions bringing us joy, laughter, grief, anger and many more feelings.
At our recent Creative Writing Group meeting, we discussed building memorable characters. Each member chose a character from an envelope containing fiction, non-fiction and even the notorious.
From a box of props, they chose outfits that depicted their character and dressed accordingly. The rest of the group then guessed who each character was.
The photograph you are looking at was taken with our members, ‘in character’. A first-class survivor from the Titanic, James Bond, Mary Poppins, Shirlock Holmes, ARP from Dads Army, Poirot, The Invisible Man and others, which I leave to your imagination.
