Gentle Strollers are people who can no longer walk far, but still want to get out for a short walk and a chat with friendly company in lovely scenery.

Our walks are a maximum of 2 miles, and generally flat, or with an occasional gentle slope, on easy terrain, and with no stiles. Some walks are in and around Kendal and we also go to Grange, Windermere, Arnside and other nearby towns and villages. We usually try to find a nearby cafe for those who want to stay on for a drink or snack afterwards.

We are slightly different from the other walking groups in that we also have a group of slightly fitter individuals who accompany the group, to lead the way, keep everyone safe, and to allow people to walk at their own speed, or turn back if necessary. We try to have at least three leader/supporters on each walk.

We send out a programme of future walks twice a year, and a detailed description of each walk is sent to members shortly before the walk with an indication of the terrain and distance. The walk leader checks each walk in advance to make sure there are no new hazards or obstacles.

New members are always welcome. We also welcome more able-bodied u3a members who are willing to give up a couple of hours every few months to be our walk-leader/supporters.

Given the nature of the group, sadly, we cannot have dogs on walks, except, of course, guide and assistance dogs.
