Are you interested in who your ancestors were, where they lived and what their occupations were? Do you have a family mystery that you want to solve?

We are an informal group of amateur family historians sharing experiences, knowledge and skills of delving into the past to discover our ancestors and their lives. We help each other discover where records exist, how to access them, how to overcome the difficulties, and how to record our information in order to build up a picture of our ancestors for future generations.

New members, whether complete beginners or experienced genealogists, are welcome at our monthly group.

We hold formal meetings over the winter on a variety of topics, and informal Q&A sessions at the Waterside Cafe in the summer. Sometimes we arrange trips to conferences and to records offices and have occasional visiting speakers. (Extra charge might apply.)

This last year’s topics were: - How to Get Started, using old maps to see where your ancestors lived, Parish records, Workhouses and the Poor Laws, Moving Around including Emigration and Transportation, and how to use DNA tests.
