This is not a beginners' group. Players need to have some knowledge of the game.

You do not need to come with a partner as we partner different people during the afternoon. It is very sociable. On average we have 5 or 6 tables.

We play Chicago usually but on the last Friday of the month we play Teams.

Tea and biscuits are supplied half way through the session allowing the chance to have a good chat.

Do join us and give your brain a work out!

Nigel comes up trumps in the Bridge group

Bridge group member Nigel Wootton comes up trumps in the quarterly competition. Nigel, who is visually impaired, achieved the best score at the end of May and was presented with the Maurice Collett Cup.

Nigel writes of his enjoyment and success in Bridge, helped by the playing cards used and the support of Bridge group members

Owing to my visual impairment, which means I only have about 5% acuity, I have to use large index playing cards in order to see what's in my hand. I rely on the other players at the table to verbally state their bids, tell me what cards they have just played, remind me what's in the dummy hand and confirm who's taken the trick. Keeping  track of the play during a three hour Chicago Bridge session is rather taxing on one's memory. I would like to thank all the other members of the U3A bridge club for their consideration and bearing with players like myself who are visually impaired but are nonetheless able to participate.
