u3a Cyclists go on tour- Kendal to Berwick

In late September 11 members of Kendal U3A set off from Kendal to cycle unsupported to Berwick on Tweed.  5 of the group being on e-bikes.  We generally followed National Cycleway Network 68, the northern section of the Pennine Cycleway.  This took us to Appleby, over Hartside,  Haltwhistle,  Otterburn and Wooler.  In the 5 days we rode 300 kilometres (187m) with 4623 metres (15167ft) of ascent staying in hotels / pubs / B & B’s.

For 2 of our group it was their first cycle tour and for one her first unsupported tour.  We had only a couple of hours drizzle in the whole time and were able to appreciate cycling on quiet roads linked with an occasional track in beautiful countryside.  Shortly after crossing into and out of Scotland we arrived in Berwick to be met with a minibus and bike trailor to return us to Kendal. All having had an energetic but enjoyable  holiday with like minded supportive travellers!
