Five members of the SLu3a Cycling group enjoyed a ride from Broughton in Furness over the Coniston Fells this week, blessed with sunny intervals and no rain. Breezy and with excellent visibility for the lovely views the ride offers,
we took the fell road from Broughton over to Torver and onto Coniston village. Our morning stop was at The Green Housekeeper Cafe with a good range of cakes on offer. The east side of Coniston was enjoyed without incident. Our packed lunch was taken at the shelter outside the Lowick church. It felt hot but the fell road and pass was appreciated as a good cycling route. 28 miles (45km), 2024ft of ascent (613m).
We paused at the summit to identify the various Coniston Range of fells. A couple of steep descents and ascents followed back to Broughton with Alan riding with a flat battery, not feeling the need to change to his spare!
