On 7th May a small group of visitors from Provence in southern France arrived in Kendal to spend a week as guests of members of the two SLu3a French groups. They were here with their English teacher, both to practise their English and to explore our local landscape and culture. Blessed with largely dry, although chilly weather, everyone was able to undertake a wide range of local visits and activities including a visit to the mayor’s parlour in Kendal and a heritage walk around the town, a guided tour of Sizergh gardens and walks and visits in the Lake District. The group also ventured further afield and spent one day in Edinburgh. On the Monday afternoon, they kindly joined our French classes for an hour’s French conversation with group members, followed by afternoon tea which was much appreciated.
All in all, a very successful and enjoyable week for all concerned and the English hosts are now looking forward to taking up an invitation to visit Provence sometime next year.
