Taking Photos of your group for publicity

Images of group members engaging in the different activities we offer are a great way to publicise our u3a.  Images of people greatly enhance our web site and the ‘news posts’ we have on our welcome page really brings our web page to life.  Social media posts further help to publicise the u3a and attract new members.

Generally, people enjoying activities are happy to have their photo taken and are pleased to see the photo used to promote their group.  However, we do need to be aware of individual sensitivity about photography

Whenever you (or a member of your group) is taking photos or videos which could be used in SLu3a online publicity such as Web Posts or Social Media, and less frequently in print media, displays or presentations – please ensure

  • that group members are aware that you may provide the photos for use on the SLu3a Web site and for its Social Media account
  • that everyone in the images are happy for them to be used for these purposes

Close ups with recognisable faces make excellent promotional images especially if they are all happy and smiling – but of course it is then doubly important that those photographed agree to the use of the image on the web site/Social Media.

Sending Images

Images for use in Web Posts can be emailed to webmaster@southlakesu3a.org.uk

Please do not crop the image but send the original file. This means that it can be resized to suit the different formats.

In the email include:

  • attach the image as a .jpg or .png file in the highest image resolution you can
  • Group name and Photographer name
  • Date image taken
  • Some information about the context of the photo – for web posts a report of what the group did is really helpful
  • Confirmation that the people in the image are happy for the image to be used on the web site and in social media
