Committee Vacancies March 2026

SLu3a is managed by a committee of around ten volunteers, some of whom are trustees. All are elected annually at the AGM. We are registered as an independent charity with the Charity Commission and operate under the umbrella of the Third Age Trust’s/ u3a Office.

Our aim is to meet the interests, activity, and social needs of retired or semi-retired people by ensuring that our SLu3a is viable.

We are still looking to fill Four Committee vacancies.

Vice Chair

To support the SLu3a’s chair in governance activities effectively and efficiently to enable us to continue with our charitable mission

Attend meetings, deputise for the chair, and liaise with committee members. One of the main roles is to maintain effective communication and support to Group Coordinators and to promote and help with the set up of new groups. You will also organise the annual Coordinators Coffee Morning.

Assistant Treasurer

Assist the treasurer in ensuring the South Lakes u3a finances are well managed, have financial controls (e.g. four eyes approval for payments), invoices are checked for accuracy then paid in good time, all payments have an audit trail, cashflow and reserves are managed on a prudent basis with monthly reporting to the committee on the state of the finances.

Assistant Secretary (role share)

Assist the Secretary with:

  • Book venues for all meetings and events
  • Organise committee and other meetings
  • Collate and distribute materials/information for the AGM, Open Morning and the Coordinators meeting.
  • Complete Charity Commission Annual Return (u3a) in liaison with the treasurer.
  • Liaise with the treasurer to ensure our insurance details are in place.
  • Update committee members contact details (for internal information)
  • Deal with correspondence and disseminate information as applicable.

Assistant Membership Secretary - (could be role share)

Assists the Membership Secretarywith welcoming new members and ensuring all membership details are kept up to date

Minute Secretary

  • Organises the Agenda for all Committee meetings and takes the minutes of meetings
